Aidan Amann Trio featuring Nick Manz

After a brilliant performance at last year’s Jazz & Blues festival, we’re delighted to welcome back the drummer led Aidan Amann Trio, which features Lichfield’s own star jazz pianist Nick Manz (BBC Young Jazz Musician Finalist in 2022).

The trio is formed of students and graduates of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and they are each individually stamping their mark on the midlands, and indeed national, jazz scenes. They will be offering their take on traditional jazz standards, original compositions and an array of Scandinavian jazz music from the likes of Esbjörn Svensson and Lars Danielsson.

Nick Manz (piano) has been praised by critics as ‘exciting, absolutely brilliant’ (Ayanna Witter-Johnson), with ‘rapid, shimmering pianism and virtuosic melodic fluency’ (Planet Hugill). After studying at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Rob van Bavel, he was then offered a scholarship at the Birmingham Conservatoire, where he now studies. Artistic influences include Sullivan Fortner, Kenny Kirkland and Olivier Messiaen.

James Owston (bass) is an active sideman, bandleader, composer and educator from Birmingham. He has played and recorded with British jazz greats including Clark Tracey, Paul Dunmall, Alan Barnes, Art Themen, Neil Yates and many more.

Now at the end of his 4 years at the Conservatoire, Aidan Amann (drums) performs regularly around the midlands and beyond. He has played at Cheltenham Jazz festival with members of the Siena Conservatory, and was recently involved in a prestigious jazz/contemporary-classical project in Paris, performing original music by John O’Gallagher and Sébastien Gaxie.

Doors open at 7.15pm and the event runs from 7.45-9.45pm with a short interval.
