Andy Morton - Artefact

Andy Morton has had a long and varied musical career, not only as an song writer but also as a composer for Channel 4 and 5 TV documentaries, musicals and countless promotional pieces.

He learned guitar from a dance-band player in the 1960's and learnt the chords that tempt jazz practitioners to try their hand at arrangement and improvisation. He has had songs played on Radio2's Jazz Record Requests and currently has a song on the Café Nero jazz playlist. People have compared Andy's baritone to that of Johhny Hartman, and he admits to having been inspired by the wild creativity of Mark Murphy. Yet he would not necessarily describe himself as a jazz singer – more someone who likes to serve up his songs on a bed of jazz.

In his current partnership with pianist/composer Tim Amman and the luminous personnel of the band he hopes to find a home for his songs with jazz audiences. With Andy on vocals, Tim on keyboards, Chris Bowden on saxes, Mike Green on bass and Keith York on drums.
